About Us
We believe in diversity and variety in music. We think the music industry is being destroyed by a lack of creativity and vision. The same corporate bean counters who are destroying so many of our institutions are also devastating our music. It is in our opinion the small business person who will continue the legacy of producing the superior product that black music is known for. Let us not forget that much of the great music that we all love was produced by small independent mom and pop labels. Companies such as VJ and Stax and Motown were all Indie labels. We have a great Legacy and musical heritage to live up to and we at New Black Music.net intend to do just that.
History
New Black Music.net was started in 1997. At the time we were doing downloads using a file format called liquid audio as well a the Real Audio format. All of the artists and producers in our network wanted to market their recordings on this new internet thing. We jumped in feet first without even knowing what we were doing or how to do it. My experience as a mainframe systems analyst came in handy. We are proud to say we were doing downloads before Itunes, Rhapsody and many others. When we started we had the Url newblackmusic.com, little did we know there are companies out here that steal web site names . We hope to get back the .com extension someday. Our motto is "Don't let your music sit on the shelf".
Future Goals
We intend to keep going strong no matter what. We plan to add more and better video. Our current internet radio station is doing great and we intend to make it even better. We plan to reach out to and extend a invitation to as many artists that we can. As India and China become more internet capable the market for new customers will expand dramatically. We must be able to produce product that is not just hype, great product that lives up to our musical heritage and sets the standard for the rest of the world.
