No more Nigger Please! – Lynch the N Word.

Ignorant people are driving me crazy!

Written by Jonathan(the Tinkerer) October 30, 2006

We are in a battle of ideologies in the black community. Ideological wars can be the longest most protracted and costly battles to be fought.Costly in time, energy and money, there effect on human beings and their quality of life. The war against the Nazis was a war of ideology, the cold war was a war of ideology and the war we are in now with al-qaeda is a war of ideology. If you are sleep walking thru the cultural ideological war in the black com munity, then you have smoked to much weed and drank to many forties. First thing I want to know is where are all of the conscious rappers at? I’m sure they are out there somewhere but they are certainly not getting the support of any major labels. It sure would be great to hear a modern day version of Gil Scott-Heron. The next thing I want to know is where is the outrage? If you look at or listen to black media you do not see anyone displaying outrage over the use of the word nigger in our popular culture. I’m just a nobody with a website and alot of ideas but where are the people with the real power.

It’s clear that those who use the N Word are brainwashed, self hating and cultural automatons, but what does that make those who control the media. What does that make the people who run black music at sony and universal and all of the other record industry conglomerates. The fact is that the Negative Negro Stereotype has always been a money maker for the powers that be, From Steppin fetchit to today’s hiphop icons.

We are being played for fools (they got my money and gave me some garbage). The other day I had to do a studio session with a rapper who said “I want that fifty cent sound”. I brought fifty cents latest cd (The Massacre) , oh brother! Every other word on that cd is nigger, nigger, nigger. I can remember seeing him being interviewed on mainstream news and entertainment shows and being treated as though he is some deep thinking tunesmith troubadour, like he's some kind of rap genius, when in fact he should have been challenged on the content of his lyrics on the cd. While picking up the fifty cd, the store was playing diddy’s cd in the background - Press Play (Bad Boy / Atlantic). Even puffy was constantly using the N word thru out his tracks.

Here I am walking around in a store full of white folks and puffy is on the speaker saying nigger, nigger, nigger. We got problems black people! I’d just like to know how a man of his stature and intelligence can validate casually using the word nigger in his music.

This self hating self despising attitude is a danger to us all.

I just saw the list of the worst cities in America and the top five are cities with large black communities, St Louis and Detroit being the worst. Can we not see the correlation between people who wish to wallow in a culture that glorifies ignorance and violent depravity? Yes we can get into the reasons people are ignorant and why people are walking around angry and out of control.Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, It’s the white man, it’s the government, it’s the Catholic Church, it’s the great kazoo, enough already. Let’s start one step at a time, let’s lynch the N-word. Let us address this self hatred as our group mental problem as I call it. If we can heal that wound, i bet you will see something wonderful. The self hating Negro who chooses to denigrate themselves and their  people are the equivalent of the old house Negro back in slave days. They go out and do Massa’s business even when Massa does not tell them what to do. You degrade your women, you encourage violence against your brother, you glorify robbing and stealing and destroying your community and ole Massa does not even have to tell you to do anything at all. All Massa has to do is let you live in one of his coop buildings or gated communities, or give you a nice new Hummer to drive or some fake gold for your teeth. Every time you use that word nigger that is exactly what you are doing. Bull Connor would be proud!

There are some times when the word nigger should be used, it does have its place.

For example the last poets used to use it in their spoken word all the time and so did Gil Scott-Heron. But what we are talking about is the gratuitous use of the word in our  media. I’m sure the people at BMG and Universal would say, “it’s not our job to be the cultural police of popular culture”, And my response to that is that is “you are absolutely right”. The reality is we don’t want the record companies to control lyrical content, we don’t want film distributors to police the content of film and videos .Because when we do wake up and start to produce 21st century Revolutionary Art, we don't want to hear anything! So that leaves it up to the content producers. The music artists and producers, the film writers and directors all have to start to think at a higher level. How will the content of my creation affect the view of my community around the world?

Remember! People in the farthest reaches of Outer Mongolia are listening to hiphop music and watching Ciara do her thing.  This is one of the most popular genres of music and culture in the history of the world. Back in my day black folks wore afros and dashiki’s and while that style was popular in the west, you did not see to many Japanese or Asians as a whole adopting that culture. Hiphop is the driving culture behind the youth around the world. I remember watching a Bosnian refugee camp on CNN and listening to the people in the camp blasting American hiphop in the background. That is why this issue is so important. It’s about a world view of the afro American.

Don't get me wrong , i'm not trying to blame the victim.Yes black america has been victimized by the crack epidemic and it's mass imprisonments of the 80's.What the hell do you think happens when you put hundreds of thousands of people into the prison system. Those people come out into the community bringing alot of baggage from the prison industrial complex. Like my barber says "That crack thing f@#ked black america up". So it is about politics not just music and videos. Don’t give me that bull crap “yo man I just make music, I ain’t into politics”. The minute you said nigger you automatically were politically involved. It's not just the young B.E.T, M.T.V generation, it's old folks too.

When i'm standing in front of the mall or beauty parlor or any busy shopping area, i'm often shocked by the negative, ignorant things i hear coming out of peoples mouths. Sorry to have to tell y'all this but old black women are the worst, at least around my way they are.Young people are not being given a good example. W.E.B Dubois talked about the talented tenth who would lead blackAmerica. It’s time for the talented tenth to stand up and get this issue dealt with.I'm talking about young folks, not angry, bitter, broken down old people (like me). Remember all of the original black panthers were in their early twenties.

Years ago there was a movement against a popular TV show (Amos and Andy) They said it was culturally insensitive to black folk. To me it was funny as hell very popular and gave black actors work, But the leaders back then said we don’t need to see any ignorant black fools on American television. Whether you agree with the movement and its goals, the fact is that they got Amos and Andy canned of the air. Black media execs must step forward and start making demands on those using their services, and personally I think that all of those hiphop magazines that glorify ignorant Negro behavior should be made the object of our economic scorn. They should either change or be run out of business. They should be painted as anti black and ignorant, and the main thing, “uncool”. Once we make it Uncool or Unhip to be a ignorant buffoon this will all be a thing of the past.

Some people might say "isn't it ok to say nigga, niggah, niggaz ".

My response to that is, it all sounds the same and it all means the same thing. You can't dress that word up any more than you could dress up the chains that bound black slaves or dress up the nooses that choked the life out of black souls. This is a no compromise issue and we need to let all who do compromise know that we do not approve. Those especially in the music industry who continue to use this word in a casual manner, are House Negro Uncle toms in the worst way. They are just out for self at the expense of their people. Whenever we here one of these ignorant uncle toms try to justify the use of that word in their music, we need to put them in check. Some of them will listen because unfortunately they just don't know any better. I'm absolutley certain that some of these same people who are a detriment to the black community could be a great asset to the community if just given the right mentoring, and that's why people who think as i do have to stand up and speak out.

We can not sleep on this one people, because it’s not just about the word nigger. It’s about our dignity and pride.

When is the last time you saw or heard those words in hiphop? It’s about the future of our children. There are thousands of people coming here everyday from all over the world. America is changing fast and we are running around hating ourselves and glorifying self destructive behavior. You can be guaranteed that those coming here do not hate themselves and will take advantage of every opportunity that we let fall by the wayside in our ignorance.

But that’s another story………
